Our purpose is to create positive outcomes for the people who use our buildings, the communities they sit in, and the broader environment — it's why we build. We bring seasoned structural and architectural expertise together with practical, buildable solutions, tailored to each project's schedule, cost, and complexity — never a template answer.
Founded in 1988 in La Crescenta, VK Engineers has grown into a full-service practice spanning structural engineering, architecture, civil engineering, and specialty structural work. Every project — from a single-family remodel to a mid-rise mixed-use development, a neighborhood restaurant to an industrial crane support — passes through the same rigorous, hands-on process that has defined VK from day one. Our portfolio's diversity is by design: it's what lets us bring the right depth of experience to whatever a project actually needs.
Rooted in Toltec wisdom, these five agreements shape how VK works with clients, collaborators, and each other on every project we take on.
We say what we mean and stand behind our calculations, our schedules, and our commitments to every client and collaborator.
Plan checks, field changes, and revisions are part of the work — we stay focused on getting the building right, not on ego.
We ask the right questions early, verify existing conditions, and communicate clearly so nothing is left to guesswork.
Our best changes moment to moment, but it's always what we give — on the simplest retrofit and the most complex mid-rise alike.
We question assumptions, double-check our own work, and listen carefully to owners, architects, and contractors before we commit a line to paper.
Vicken leads VK Engineers as Principal and Licensed Structural Engineer, directing the firm's structural engineering practice and overseeing its most technically demanding projects. His work spans complex mid-rise residential structures, new construction, seismic retrofits, renovations, and structural evaluations.
He brings a Stanford-trained analytical rigor to every project, combining advanced structural engineering expertise with a practical understanding of architecture, construction, and project delivery — from early design concepts through calculations, construction documents, permitting, and construction administration.
Jonathan directs the architectural practice, translating client vision into precise, contextual buildings. His portfolio spans national and international commissions — a discipline of restraint, materiality, and quiet monumentality that defines the VK signature.
For nearly four decades, every VK project has passed through both principals — a structural engineer and an architect, both Stanford-trained. That double signature is the firm's discipline: the building has to draw well, and it has to stand.
Oversees design development, architectural planning, construction documents, and project delivery across VK's diverse portfolio — translating design concepts into coordinated, buildable architectural plans.
Oversees structural design development, engineering analysis, construction documents, and project delivery — translating architectural concepts into coordinated, code-compliant structural systems.
Oversees day-to-day studio operations, coordinating staff, projects, and client-facing activities across administration, HR, and office management.
